Wendell Knight

Wendell Knight, LMSW, CSWM
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Knight has more than twenty-five years of managerial and leadership experience in the fields of transitional and permanent housing development and work restoration for individuals, families and Veterans suffering from chronic behavioral health issues.

He has led a distinguished career and created a proven track record in developing both best-practice psychiatric rehabilitation programs and social purpose enterprises in the private and public sectors.

He holds a B.A. from Houston International University and an M.S.W. from Hunter College, School of Social Work.  He is also a licensed social worker and is a Certified Social Work Manager. He has received numerous honors from organizations such as the Psychiatric Association of New York City and the New York City Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.  He serves on several local and national nonprofit board of directors.

Isaac S. Brown
Treasurer, Board of Directors

Isaac S. Brown is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Baltic Street AEH, Inc. He formerly served as the Director of Advocacy and Housing Services for BSAEH for almost 10 years. Before coming to BSAEH, he spent five years working as the Training Coordinator for the Mental Health Empowerment Project, Inc.

He identifies as a consumer of mental health services and he began his career in human services as an advocate in 1991. Before going Baltic Street AEH, Inc., he served as a program supervisor at a clubhouse in Brooklyn. He is the President of the Mental Health Empowerment Project Board of Directors, and he also serves on the Collaborative Support Programs of New Jersey’s (CSPNJ) governing board.

Throughout his career he has received numerous honors. In 1997, he was awarded the Consumer of the Year Award for Excellence in Service and Programming from the Department of Mental Health. In 2000, he received the Marty K. Smith Memorial Award from the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services. In 2002, he received the Sonia Brodsky memorial award for furthering the arts. In 2013, he received the Coalition of Behavioral Health Agencies Leadership Award as well as the NAMI Staten Island Leadership Award.

He is also a working artist whose works are featured in the New York City Field Office of the New York State Office of Mental Health and the Coalition of Behavioral Health Agencies.

Joanne L. Forbes, BSN, MA, ABD, CPRD
Board Member

Joanne L. Forbes is the founder of Recovery Solutions, Inc. and an adjunct professor at St. Paul’s School of Nursing in New York City. Her professional career spans four decades as a psychiatric mental health professional. She was formerly the Director of Community Services at South Beach Psychiatric Center, an innovative state-funded community mental health center that provides comprehensive mental health services to Brooklyn and Staten Island residents.

She is a certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation practitioner and a licensed registered nurse in New York and New Jersey. She earned a master’s degree in nursing from New York University and is presently a doctoral candidate in the Psychiatric Rehabilitation School of Health Related Professions at Rutgers University. She was the recipient of numerous awards including the Brendon Nugent Leadership Award from the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services, and was recognized by the Mental Health Empowerment Project in 1998. Her latest publication is a book entitled Madness: Heroes Returning from the Front Lines.

She is a member of the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (USPRA), New York State Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (NYAPRS), former president of the Staten Island Interagency Council on Aging, former president of the Staten Island Mental Health Council, and Board Member of Baltic Street AEH, Inc. and well as Richmond Senior Services, Inc.
